So as you can see I’m reviewing Earl and Fairy 8. Hopefully Yozakura Quartet 8 will be out tomorrow =D I enjoyed this episode but I felt like their could of been more, maybe because they’re building up to the huge finale. Who knows. I pray that they will continue on with this series since theirs so many more books. Anyways enjoy my review.

Summary

Paul wakes up from a night of  drinking and finds a girl, innocent-looking one, sleeping beside him. She sits up and starts to cry. The tears that fall turn into Amber, little-round-jewel-things.

Lydia has baked some cookies for the fairies. She is taking the cookies to them, with brownies following behind her. Edgar shows up and tastes one of the cookie. He comments on the weird taste, and she says theirs lots of camomile in it and it’s for the fairies. Edgar leans in close and asks if she still won’t wear her engagement ring. She says the usual Lydia line, I’m not your fiancee.  Edgar shushes her, saying Kelpie might of heard that. Lydia says he’s probably already back to England. Just then, Kelpie shows up. Kelpie says he’ll eat Edgar for her anytime. Lydia is shocked thinking that Kelpie has “given up”. He reminds her that he said he would wait for her,not give up on her. Edgar tells him to refrain his manners in front of his fiancee. Kelpie tells Edgar to back away because he’s a villain.

Lydia is out in the garden. Thinking and looking at the ring, when a coblynau shows up. He is the caretaker of the ring. He’s happy that Lydia has found it because she will be a perfect bride for the Earl. The ring was given given to the Blue Knight Earl’s bride by the Earl himself. So the ring represent the Earl’s bride. Lydia is surprised at this long history of the ring. Without Lydia noticing, the coblynau puts the ring on Lydia’s fingers without her consent.  Lydia is shocked and tries to get off the ring but finds out that only the Earl can take it off. This is so for 1) She doesn’t lose it and 2) She doesn’t take it off around other men. (Also the ring first belonged to Gwendolen)

Edgar is happy that Lydia’s wearing the ring. Lydia’s saying it’s the coblynau fault that she’s wearing it, not her and it’s not under her  own feelings. Edgar is happy with the fairy and brings up the second reason why she should wear the ring, so she doesn’t attract other men. Lydia reminds Edgar the engagment was fake and was just a excuse to leave the fairy world. Edgar still thinks they should get married. The coblynau shows up and asks if the bride is dissatisfied with the Earl. Lydia gets angry. The coblynau tries to talk with Edgar but Edgar finds this weird since he can only hear the coblynau but not see him, so the coblynau picks up a pink flower to show where he is. He tells the Earl that he doesn’t care for her that much and he should show more love for her, treat her like a princess like the last Earl did. How the Earl is currently treating Lydia is too plain. Edgar agrees and says this is why he’s presenting his fiancee to society. Nico’s happy he’ll be able to dress up. Lydia is shocked at this. The butler comes and says the preparation are ready all thats left is Lydia’s dress. Edgar stands up, Lydia gives up and stands up and follows Edgar out. Before they leave the coblynau make a statement that Edgar really does Lydia, he says of course.

So all the maids are preparing Lydias’ dress. Lydia’s in her undergarments and they’re trying to fit the corset or lace the corset real tight *not too sure*. Lydia’s in pain and they pull so hard that eventually they all fall over. Raven is walking towards the room Lydia is in, he hears her scream and quickly barges into the room. Only to find, Lydia in her undergarments. He stares at her and Lydia notices him and screams.

So as Raven’s punishment, he must dress in a girl’s dress for tonight’s party. Or coming-out-as-Edgar’s-fiancee party. He’s in a black dress. Anyways Raven looks kind of emotionless, but also kind of embarrassed. He agrees to it. Everyone compliments on how pretty he looks. Nico, who’s dressed as a gentlemen, says that he could show that he doesn’t like something, sometimes. Edgar states that it’s a sin to see Lydia in her undergarments before he does.

So the party has started. Raven’s there. Everyone’s there. Edgar walks Lydia into the room, all eyes are on them. Lydia thinks Edgar is too late and he says she smells like camomile. But will taste better then any cookie. He’s flirting with her again. Kelpie shows up and basically things between Edgar and Kelpie start up again.  As being mean/rude Edgar tells Kelpie their is food over to the side. Kelpie goes over to eat some, Lydia sees Edgar look, and yells at Kelpie not to eat it. Kelpie gets mad at Edgar and they start fighting. Nico watches from the side, while drinking *scotch probably*.

So Paul arrives with the girl.  Paul is confused at how she got here.  Edgar teases him about bringing women home. Anyways Edgar tells the girl not to worry because Paul is a earnest young man. The fairy says that he said that he didn’t know her. Edgar asks why Paul did this. The girl starts crying again and her tears become Amber. Paul says that right and he wants Lydia’s advice. Paul tells the girl that this is Edgar the Blue Knight Earl. The girl says he isn’t because she doesn’t feel any power from him. Lydia comes i nand asks why a banshee is here.  Lydia basically tells us what a fairies is and their are fairies her who are apart of households or clans and they live in those household/clans,work for them. Anyways when a banshee cries it means she foresees a member of the clans death. Paul explains that she doesn’t know how she came about, ect, and that all she remembers is her owners name which is Glady. Coblynau, whose also in the room, explains that Glady was the Blue Knight Earl’s countess a hundred years old.

So after everyone left, Edgar states with all thats going on Lydia should stay here. He says he promises he’ll restrain himself from entering her room. Meanwhile Paul, his little brother *Jimmy*, and his father go home to find their place robbed and destroyed. All the theft took was all the O’Neil’s work or Paul’s father works. The family reports this to Edgar. Raven says that at Slade art dealership they were robbed of O’Neil works too and their have been reports that one of the Prince’s men have entered  England. Edgar states that Paul should take refugee here, and Lydia will be protected by himself. Edgar states that Paul staying here will also work because the banshee seems to open up more to Paul.

Later, Raven gives all the Ambers to Edgar. Edgar says they could try to make a necklace out of it. Lydia denies this fact, and says theirs to much sadness. She tells them to burn it first to get rid of that sadness. So they light a match and set the ambers on fire. Lydia states that she will solve the Banshee problem so Edgar doesn’t have to worry and he can focus on protecting everyone.  Edgar says it’s meaningless for him to solve it. Lydia says it’s her job. Edgar basically denies this. Lydia asks if her help is meaningless unless she marries him. Edgar states that he can’t let a mere employee do this job. He  then takes the ring off of Lydia’s finger and says since she’s reluctant now I’ll take it off but he hopes that she will still keep it.

So Lydia is walking up the stairs and runs into Kelpie. He embraces her, tells her she looks depressed, asks for her to stop bothering with others, and to get married to him. Raven shows up telling him to let go of Lydia because she is Edgar’s fiancee. Kelpie provokes Raven by saying Edgar and Raven don’t have any authority over him. Raven eyes turn green, he has his knife out and goes at Kelpie. Kelpie dodges all attacks from Raven and asks if he wants to fight to the death. Lydia asks for them to stop. Kelpie explains that if he turned into his true form, Raven’s sprite would recognize it and fight to the death so the only one that can stop him is her. Lydia tells Raven to stop and Kelpie to go. Kelpie says to Raven to tell Edgar, that if Edgar hurts Lydia he won’t show him any mercy. Kelpie then disappears and Raven asks for  Lydia not to betray Edgar. Lydia says she isn’t betraying him. Raven says having feelings for Kelpie is betraying. Lydia says that she isn’t betraying Edgar and that the Engagement was a makeshift. Raven says it’s still a Engagement.  Lydia says he should be telling this to the womanizer and that he doesn’t need her. Raven claims that Edgar is with no other women and Lydia tells Raven to leave her alone.

Raven reports back to Edgar that they should be more wary of Kelpie because he say Kelpie courting Lydia. He says he protected Lydia because she was Edgar’s fiancee. Edgar says it shouldn’t be like that, that Raven should protect Lydia as a friend. Raven is shocked by this.

So Paul and the Banshee are  talking. The banshee asks if he’s really related to Glady and he tells her the human world has changed drastically lately. She also says the number of people who recognize fairies have dropped tremendously. She says this is because no one noticed her and she was happy when Paul did. She then tells him that she likes his scent. Paul says that the Earl is working hard to fulfill his job as her lord and Lydia is working hard too. The banshee recognizes that he takes importance notices to these people. Paul gets a idea to draw a  portrait of the banshee, she agrees, and he leaves to get his sketchbook. Just then Ermine appears and asks the banshee to come because she’ll show the banshee to it’s real master.

Next Episode

Lydia is looking at the real moon with her ring. Edgar burns the bowl that the ambers used to be in. The flame quickly goes out. He comments on how it won’t burn. He then says; “Lydia, I don’t think there’s any way I can protect you other than to let you go.”

Thoughts: This preview was kind of a let down. It’s interesting, maybe sad to some fans, but mostly a let down. Hopefully the next episode won’t make us feel bad.

Thoughts

I know this episode is building up to the finale but it didn’t really interest me that much. Maybe the ending but thats it. I love Edgar flirting with Lydia, and I like Kelpie, and Paul is Paul. But this episode didn’t satisfy me for some reason. I can’t say it was because I was tired because I was fully awake. I enjoy some of the comedy but thats about it. Anyways character development, Raven is starting to realizes some things in life like he should be Lydia’s/Edgar’s friend instead of just a regular servant. Edgar is letting Lydia lead the way he’s also feeling doubts about protecting her. Lydia is still Lydia. Paul is still Paul. Plot development is that we got a new character the Banshee who has forgotten her past. We got a new character, Coblynau who seems to be rooting for Edgar’s/ Lydia’s marriage. We learn that Ermine will be taking the banshee to the prince. We learn that all of Paul’s father works have been stolen and theirs reports of one of Prince’s men entering England. So ya,till next time ^_^

Ratings

Episode: It was a ok, not overly great episode. I got a bit bored, laughed at the funny scenes. This episode now is working off to the finale. I don’t know it was just kind of a “uhgg” episode for me. I don’t know how to explain it, I just felt it.

8.5/10

Plot/Character Development: I’m going to stride away from character development for this episode and focus on plot development. We got two new characters. One of them is a banshee and has no memory of anything except her master. At the end of this episode, Ermine comes to take the banshee away to the prince. All of Paul’s father works have been stolen and theirs reports of one of the Prince’s men entering England. Edgar is feeling doubts about protecting Lydia. Lydia’s confused about Edgar and everything. So in all it was a good plot development.

9/10
